How you had YourSay:

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback about a new way to access public maternity services in Canberra.

Canberrans were invited to have their say by:

  • taking the online survey
  • sharing a short comment
  • writing a submission to Maternity Services, Centenary Hospital for Women and Children, PO Box 5, ACT 2606.

We are looking at:

We heard from new parents that it’s not always clear what to do when you first find out you’re having a baby. We want to make it easier for you to access Canberra's public maternity services and get personalised information earlier in your pregnancy.

We’ve consulted with new mums, mums-to-be, health practitioners, and community organisations about how to make it easier to learn about and access our public maternity services.

Feedback from these individuals and groups has helped to shape our proposed changes, which are explained by midwife, Jo, in the video and transcript.

Under the changes, you will be able to:

  • call one phone number to arrange your first appointment with a midwife
  • meet a midwife early to talk about public pregnancy and birthing options available in Canberra and your personal preferences and health care needs
  • receive local support before, during and after your pregnancy, so you get the best start to parenthood!

Your views will be used to:

Your feedback helped us to develop Canberra Maternity Options, a new streamlined way to access and learn about Canberra’s public maternity system.
