Introduction

The Canberra Night-life survey was completed by more than 1,800 respondents and examined drivers and barriers towards greater engagement in Canberra’s night-time scene.

The survey was conducted between 19 April – 1 May 2023.

Results from the survey show some appetite for local areas to have more of a night-time scene, with many people indicating there is not much to do in their local area besides eating and drinking. A lack of venues open in later hours was the main barrier for people visiting their local area at night, whereas parking was viewed as the main barrier to visiting the City Centre at night. In addition to exploring the barriers to going out at night more often, the report also highlights suggestions to improve the night-time experience in these areas.

The survey results will be used to inform a vision for night-life in Canberra being developed by the ACT Government’s Better Regulation Taskforce.
