Introduction

Almost 2,000 YourSay Panel members took part in a survey about wood heaters in the home.

The survey was conducted between 11 and 18 August 2022.

The ACT Government was seeking to examine wood heater ownership and use during winter and whether owners of these were considering replacing or had replaced one in the past. The survey also explored community attitudes towards air quality and smoke from wood heaters as well as opinions on transitioning to cleaner energy sources.

The results from the survey are being used by the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate (EPSDD) to inform actions outlined in the ACT Government’s Bushfire Smoke and Air Quality Strategy 2021-25.
